Organizations of deaf people ask to modify the subsidy system of the Catalan Government

The Federation of Deaf People of Catalonia (Fesoca) has called on the Generalitat to modify the current subsidy system for the next term, the organization explained in a statement.

Along with the State Confederation of Deaf People (CNSE), the Fesoca has applauded that last Wednesday the Government released "the payment of subsidies from the third sector of Catalonia that remained blocked."

In this sense, the president of the Fesoca, Antonio Martinez, said that while the Government's decision is "a relief" to the budgetary constraints suffered by the federation, it is necessary that the Government includes in its portfolio of services these organizations and commit to streamline payments for the next term.

REDUCTION OF KEY SERVICES

Martinez recalled that the non-payment to which the entity has been subjected forced to reduce key services such as interpretation in Catalan sign language, social care, labor intermediation, promotion and participation of the deaf youth of Catalonia and support for girls and boys deaf and their families.

The joint projects between Fesoca and CNSE are the only ones that were not affected during the year, such as the provision of the SVI video interpretation service in Catalan sign language, which has attended more than 700 calls in the last three months.

Nor did it interfere in the face-to-face interpretation services linked to the convention of the Confederation with the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, and the employment program that depends on the tax allocation of 0.7% of the IRPF, given that they all depend on the state financing managed by the CNSE.

THE GENERALITAT CONTRIBUTES THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE BUDGET

Although these services were up to date with the payment, the president of the confederation, Concha Díaz, explained that "the most important bulk" for financing services and for other entities in the field of disability is provided by the Generalitat.

Given this scenario, last week the State Cermi and the CNSE addressed a letter to the Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality in which they expressed their concern at the seriousness of the third Catalan sector, and requested the ministry "their political performance in a can not be postponed. "

In the face of the upcoming regional elections in December, the president of Fesoca has expressed his desire that the elected government team "display the law of the Catalan sign language more effectively" and accompany it with a stable budget item.
